Satisfied – Rewind

I’m reminded of that scene in Hamilton where Angelica Skyler’s world stops for a minute. The screeching sounds and whirling confusion of her memories from just a few weeks and months ago are already haunting her. In the background you hear the words “rewind” repeated over and over.

That has become our spirit lately. That feeling of “Holy Crap what just happened?!”

The Path (I’ve affectionately given it a title … respect it!) has taken us in so many crazy directions this past summer. I’m feeling a lot like Angelica, with our world spinning around us, wanting to hit that rewind button. In March we excitedly put our plans, our dreams, our ambitions and our faith in each other into our goal of living “limitlessly”. To cut the strings of a home on land and an office with four walls (or worse yet a cubicle … yuck!). In true Type-A style, Nick and I went to WORK! In between and outside of work schedules, meetings and client needs we researched the heck out of anything and everything sailing, blog, YouTube, podcast and website … we were on a mission!

Rewind … rewind …

Enter Covid-19. Who knew right?

To sit here this morning and reflect over the last couple of months I can see where The Path protected us. It’s forcing our hand and our mindsets to move forward in ways that we probably would’ve drug our feet on or done differently. The Path has given us opportunities to slow down our thinking and pinpoint what is important in life to us by taking away work schedules and work stresses. The Path has brought us to meet wonderful new friends in the sailing community and crewing opportunities to test our sea legs (social distancing is so much easier in the middle of Lake Michigan). The Path has given us long mornings of exploration on our bikes and hours of contemplative conversation that we were just too exhausted to enjoy before. The Path has taught us how to live with less … no eating out, taking our bikes vs cars, no shopping and simply reevaluating the question of “is it worth it” before we search for our masks to purposefully eat, shop, interact, etc. The Path has given us a renewed affirmation that we indeed want to get off this crazy roller coaster and pursue a simpler life.

So this is where we take the leap. It’s sink or swim time!

Money is getting tight. We are like so many other households right now living off of the government assistance programs to make ends meet. At the moment, Nick’s skills and title of Executive Director of Culinary Operations for a multi-million dollar casino conglomerate mean very little in our current situation. He has a previous career title in law enforcement … that’s not looking so attractive these days either (mad respect to these men and women!) While we didn’t have much in our 401k accounts, we are able to pull from these funds to start over and reinvent ourselves. So the wheels are turning and we are faced with a new challenge! When you can go anywhere and do anything to reinvent your life … where does The Path lead you?

We have a few ideas …

It’s going to be a good life …

Stick with us on our journey!

Much love,

Kirsten
