Entertaining

Hosting & Entertaining

A welcoming table doesn’t require a special occasion. Start with a comfortable place for guests to gather, a simple plan for drinks and serving, and a few details that make the meal feel personal.

Plan Your Gathering

01 | Start with the Table

Choose your dinnerware first, then build around it. A tablecloth or runner gives the setting a foundation; napkins, glassware, and flatware add the practical layers. Leave enough space for guests to eat comfortably, and keep the centerpiece low enough for conversation.

An easy place setting: dinner plate, folded napkin, flatware, water glass, and a wine or cocktail glass if needed. Add a salad or dessert plate only when the menu calls for one.

02 | Make Drinks Easy to Serve

Set up a drink area away from the food so guests can help themselves without crowding the table. Put glasses, ice, garnishes, and a nonalcoholic option together. For a larger gathering, prepare one signature drink in advance and keep water within easy reach.

03 | Set Up for Serving

Think through how food will travel from kitchen to table. Match each dish with a serving piece and utensil before guests arrive. Keep hot dishes together, make room for plates at the beginning of the serving area, and put napkins and flatware where guests can pick them up naturally.

04 | Add the Finishing Touches

A tablescape can be as simple as greenery, one arrangement, or a few well-chosen candles. Repeat two or three colors or materials across the linens, dishes, and centerpiece. The goal is a table that feels inviting and still works when the food arrives.
